  • Sociology graduate student John Liu has won an SSRC fellowship for his dissertation work studying the carbon market. John was one of 77 awardees out of 1,148 applicants. John will use the roughly $19,000 award to finance his travel in Europe and China "following" the carbon commodity chain.

  • Kasandra Brown, a Community & Environmental Sociology undergraduate major, won a 2012 CALS Outstanding Senior award. The award is given to students in recognition of their scholastic performance, leadership, and service. Kasandra organized events for sustainable agriculture issues and LGBT issues on campus. She also volunteers for the Greater University Tutoring Service.

  • Brittany Bethel, a 2009 graduate in Community and Environmental Sociology, is currently the manager of a County Farmers Market and the Marketing and Operations manager of their County Fair, both non-profit organizations. She is also in the process of becoming a University of Florida extension agent.

  • Michael Bell has been named the new director of the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems. He is featured in an article in the Badger Herald.
